⚠️ Note: This guide is for electronic drums only.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Factory Reset Your Drums
Perform a factory reset on your drum kit. Refer to your user manual or check this guide for instructions.

  2. Check MIDI Settings

    • Melodics uses the General MIDI (GM) standard drum map. Ensure your drums are sending MIDI notes that match the GM standard.

    • Make sure your drums are set to MIDI channel 10.

    • Some drum modules have GM settings. Check your module and turn ‘GM’ ON if available.

  3. Check Your USB Cable

    • The quality and length of your USB cable can affect performance. Use a shorter (no longer than 2 meters), higher-quality cable.

    • Avoid using USB hubs or extension cables; connect your drums directly to your computer.

  4. Test MIDI Output

    • To check if your drums are sending MIDI signals, download a MIDI monitor tool:

    • Install the tool, open it, and hit a few drums. If the notes register, your drums are sending MIDI correctly.

Audio Troubleshooting

If you can’t hear the metronome or backing track:

  • Go to the Settings tab and click ‘Play test audio’.

  • If there’s no sound, make sure:

    • Your audio output device is selected in the Settings tab.

    • Your volume is turned up.

  • For more details, refer to our audio setup guide

Hi-Hat Not Opening or Closing

If your electronic hi-hat isn’t functioning correctly:

  1. Check Connection Method

    • If connected via a MIDI to USB interface and your drum module has a USB connection, try connecting directly via USB.

  2. Revert to Default Mapping

    • For supported devices, click ‘Revert all mappings’ to return to the default settings.

  3. Factory Reset Your Drums

    • Reset your drums to factory settings. Refer to your manual or this guide for instructions.

  4. Check Hi-Hat Connections

    • Ensure all cables are correctly connected to your hi-hat and hi-hat pedal.

Specific e-Drum Hardware Guides

Some drum kits need additional setup. Check these specific guides:

  • Alesis Drums: Ensure ‘GM’ is turned ON in your module settings. Use a USB 2.0 cable instead of USB 3.0 to avoid connection issues.

  • Roland TD-9: If you have hi-hat issues, set ‘HH Compatibility’ to ‘External’ in your TD-9 module settings.

  • Roland SPD and HPD Series: These controllers might not follow the GM drum specification. Adjust the MIDI settings to match the GM standard drum map for syncing with Melodics.
